THE SEARCH for a combined sar team is not in vain. After penetrating quite difficult terrain, finally two landslide victims in Tana Toraja Regency, South Sulawesi, who were mother and child, namely Sopia (43) and Gea (3) were found.
However, both of them were found dead. This increases the number of victims who died due to landslides to 20 people.
The two victims were found at least 21 kilometers from the landslide point, in Palangka Village, Manggau Village, South Makale District, Tana Toraja, Monday (15/4) evening.
Previously, the Head of the Makassar Basarnas Office, Mexianus Bekabel, said that there were still two victims missing and a search was being carried out even though the conditions on the ground were quite extreme, and had hampered the search.
“But finally it was found,” he said, Tuesday (16/4).
Meanwhile, Chairman of the South Sulawesi Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Amson Padolo, added that of the 20 victims who died due to landslides, there are still two survivors who are being treated at Lakipadada Hospital, Toraja.

“In fact, four bodies have been buried in an Islamic manner. Meanwhile, the other bodies are still being handled by the Tana Toraja Regency Government for burial.
The body will be buried in a Christian manner. “Some bodies have also been handed over to their families,” Amson added.
Even though the two missing victims had been found, the joint team did not immediately close the search operation.
“Currently, the joint team is still waiting if at any time there are reports of residents missing due to being buried by landslides. We are still waiting for information, who knows, there may still be information from the public. But today we are evaluating it. If there is none, the search operation will be closed ,” concluded Amson. (LN)
