54.4% of respondents want to see the MP MR and former Prime Minister play a role.
“The less it is present, the more popular it is,” we regularly hear from the Liberals. It remains to be seen whether this popularity will continue as well once the woman who has discreetly resumed her position as First Alderwoman in Rhode-Saint-Genèse returns fully to the political arena. Sophie Wilmès should be head of the Brussels list in the Chamber.
Discreetly, Sophie Wilmès returned to her post at Rhode-Saint-Genèse
Prime Minister Alexandre De Croo (50.7) occupies second place in the ranking, while Paul Magnette comes a notch behind (37.6%).
The popularity of Frank Vandenbroucke (Vooruit) is less expected. The federal Minister of Health, significantly less in the media since the end of the Covid crisis, comes 4th (37.1%) a hair behind Paul Magnette. A sign, undoubtedly, that the caution he showed during the epidemic was appreciated by part of the population. And that, paradoxically, unpopular decisions can make people popular.
Hadja Lahbib did not suffer from Irangate
The score of the one who succeeded Sophie Wilmès as Minister of Foreign Affairs is also remarkable. Hadja Lahbib garners 35.9% favorable opinions and obtains the 5th best score in Brussels. She hardly seems to have suffered from her involvement in Irangate.
It is especially in Brussels that the former RTBF news presenter performs since her score there is almost 10% higher than in Wallonia.
The same analysis is required for Georges-Louis Bouchez (6th in the ranking), president of the MR, who garners 35.2% favorable opinions in Brussels, but only 29.8% in Wallonia. The opposite, for the one who might occupy the head of the federal list in Hainaut, would have been more useful… The president of the Brussels MR, David Leisterh, who aspires to the post of Minister-President of Brussels, obtains a very timid score. He ranks 29th out of 30 personalities surveyed, with 22.2% of respondents wanting to see him play a role.
Caroline Désir is the most popular socialist in Brussels
On the socialist side, it is interesting to note the good score of Caroline Désir (PS), Minister of Education. With 35% favorable opinions, Ixelloise comes in seventh position. This data is interesting to observe while the Brussels PS still has to decide on the question of its future head of the Brussels list. Caroline Désir, who some would see as Minister Presidency of the Region in 2024, is often cited to occupy this place. His personal score exceeds that of the three other personalities considered for this position, Rudi Vervoort (32.8%), Ahmed Laaouej (25.3%) and to a lesser extent, Philippe Close (27.7%).
Finally, François De Smet, president of Défi, seems to be breaking through in the individual rankings since he garners 31.9% favorable opinions. He is several points ahead of his leader in the Brussels government, Bernard Clerfayt (26.4%).
The greens are not celebrating
The elected environmentalists are not celebrating in the Brussels Region. The first Ecolo personality, Jean-Marc Nollet, only comes in 23rd position, ahead of Zakia Khattabi (25th) and Alain Maron (28th).
More broadly, personalities strictly active at the level of the Brussels Region are not popular. This indicates a lack of image for the members of the Brussels executive.
The Minister-President of Brussels, Rudi Vervoort (PS) is the first representative (10th) of the Brussels government. The first local elected official is Philippe Close (PS), mayor of Brussels (15th).
This survey was carried out by the Kantar institute via an online survey from September 10 to October 9 among 436 voters living in Wallonia, 566 voters living in Flanders and 545 voters living in Brussels with the right to vote in the 2014 national elections. Their representativeness was weighted according to the Belgian population according to age, level of education, professional status and province. The maximum margin of error is 4.4% in all three regions.
