“Most people don’t know how to behave”

When a priority vehicle with a siren approaches, not everyone knows how to react. There is however a rule for this kind of case, and it is not always respected…

“Most people don’t know how to behave when they see a priority vehicle in the rear view mirror,” says Dimitri de Petter, paramedic at Cliniques de l’Europe, to our colleagues at RTL Info.

But what should we really do in this situation? Since October 1, 2020, the “emergency lane” rule must be applied: when a priority vehicle is approaching in traffic jams, motorists are required to move to either side of the the roadway in order to create this famous emergency corridor.

Failure to comply with this rule can result in motorists being fined 174 euros.
