How you were still a top transfer with 38 million. That shows how sick the whole system has become.

Well, it turns out again and again that top transfers don’t necessarily bring what the club hopes for.

If you consider what incredibly expensive flops there were among the top transfers and what sums of money were spent…

When I read through the list, I also noticed how many of these players could not justify the transfer fee they paid. Some were even complete flops.
What stands out here is of course FC Barcelona and their three questionable transfers of Dembele, Coutinho and Griezmann. In all three cases the transfers did not make 100% sense, in all three cases the clubs did not want to sell the players and in all three cases Barcelona went way over the limit so that the clubs could no longer say no. With each of these transfers you had the feeling that the player, his character and his skills were not really suited to Barcelona and you were surprised why Barcelona went over the limit every time. In the end it was clear that the players would not be able to justify the excessive transfer fee.

Another story that has been brought home to us once again is the absurd transfer fee for Naymar. The numbers in football are rising at a rapid pace, sales are rising and so are the transfer fees and salaries. When the 100 million mark was cracked for the first time, it felt somehow perverse, although it was actually clear that the amounts would be normal a few years later. In this rapid development of the numbers, Naymar still manages to be in first place by a clear margin. They simply spent 222 million on a player whose realistic market value at the time was around 100 million. I don’t think Barcelona would have gotten more under normal circumstances, especially since the number of clubs that could afford such a transfer fee was very limited. Paris simply put 222 million on the table from petty cash and that’s it. A transfer that would not have been justifiable for any club in the world that runs its business properly.
