An operation of mosquito control will take place in the district of Neuhof in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin) on the night of July 20 to 21. At issue: a case of dengue has been reported, said the prefecture of Bas-Rhin, the ARS and the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg in a press release.
A case of dengue fever following a stay abroad
The case of dengue was identified in a person “who had recently stayed
in a tropical country where the disease is present”, explain the authorities.
The epidemiological and entomological investigations carried out by the health authorities led to the identification of an area frequented in Strasbourg by this person during the period of viraemia (duration during which the virus being present in the blood, a mosquito biting this person can then contaminate others).

What is dengue?
Dengue fever is a viral disease transmitted to humans by the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes, also called tiger mosquitoes.
The most common symptoms are high fever, headache,
body aches, nausea and rashes. Most patients have mild symptoms or no symptoms and recover in 1 to 2 weeks. Some develop severe dengue fever and are hospitalized.
There is no specific treatment for dengue fever. Pain and fever are treated with analgesics and antipyretics.
