Moshira Ismail In addition to having a distinguished and comprehensive artistic performance, she also has an exceptional life and human experience, and she allowed us, in this lengthy dialogue that is published in several parts, to dive with her into the details of that long journey, and restore with her the most beautiful memories and stories that she reveals for the first time.
Moshira Ismail She started her career with the world of art since she was a child through one of the famous programs on Egyptian television, and then, at a very young age, she began a new experience through her participation in the National Folklore Ensemble, with which she toured many countries around the world, through which she lived through situations that cannot be erased from memory. She was an ambassador of Egyptian art, and then entered the world of acting to present a number of works that are still engraved in the minds, and without introductions, “Moshira Ismail” wore the veil without noise, and she completed her artistic career following that. in that rich experience.
I always used to be in that series of dialogues.”regarding her“To start with the family and its influence on the formation of female artists in Egypt, but with you I will start with the question that comes up every time your name is mentioned, and what is the secret of your distance from the screen despite my knowledge that there are several works presented to you and you apologize for them?
I will simply list to you situations that happened to me recently, through which you can understand the secret of my apology for these actions, including that some time ago I found one of those in charge of an artwork communicating with me to play a mentally ill character in one of the series, and here I made sure to warn that I was veiled, and I found him saying To me, “You have a problem if the doctor – the actor playing the role – held your arm and gave you a massage.” Once once more, I found someone calling me and telling me, “We are set for this role for such and such an amount.” Once once more, a director asked me to start filming the next day, and they often list I have the personal on the phone and they refuse to send the script, following all this everyone can know the secret of my distance.

On the occasion of your wearing the hijab, you are one of the few artists who did not trade the decision to wear the hijab, but rather you refuse to talk regarding it. So, in this dialogue in which we recount your full human experience, will you reveal to us the secret behind this decision, and why do you refuse to talk regarding it?
Quite simply, the hijab is normal for me. I have sisters who are veiled. As for the reason for my wearing the hijab, this is a secret between me and God.
But weren’t you afraid that this decision would affect your candidacy for works of art?
Absolutely, “Whoever wants me like this and likes it, you are welcome, and whoever does not want me to thank you, goodbye.. I have already seen success,” and the success that I achieved in the national band may be more than acting 100 times.
I move with you to the family, which always has the first influence on a person, so what regarding the family that spawned that talent?
My father was a police officer, and he died in his forties, when he held the position of deputy governor of Giza and head of the supply investigations, and the time of his death coincided with the passage of a few months following the July Revolution, he exhausted himself at work and he was ill with diabetes and pressure, which made him die in his office While he was carrying out his work, and a military funeral was held for him, which was attended by former President Gamal Abdel Nasser and Field Marshal Abdel Hakim Amer, and I had a picture of the entire Revolutionary Command Council offering condolences to the family in our house in the downtown area.
You were at a young age when your father died.. right?
Yes.. I was only 9 months old.

Did your father’s death at a young age affect you and make you feel “orphaned”?
It certainly had a great influence on me, but it might have been a positive impact rather than a negative one.

What regarding the role of your mother in your life, who took full responsibility following the death of the father?
Indeed, my mother bore the responsibility of raising five daughters on her own, as some of the family lived in Fayoum, others in other places, and they visited us from time to time, so “my mother carried the shayla on her own”, and it had a positive effect on me, as I mentioned to you, and we understood We are the daughters of the situation, and we supported each other and supported her, as we were aware of what happened to us and the death of our father, and in fact it provided us with a decent life, and I remember that on the secondary anniversary of the father’s death, we used to spread the living room to receive mourners, and following that the reciter would come to recite the Qur’an, and in fact the Qur’an was recited It was a daily ritual in our house. Sheikh Fouad would come every morning and read the Qur’an, and we would all sit in front of him and listen.
And she continues with a tone of happiness and nostalgia: The best days of my life were spent in our house in the downtown area, specifically July 26th Street. I do not forget that the celebrations of the July Revolution were passing through the bottom of our house, and President Abdel Nasser was passing by, then looking at us and saluting with a hand.
I return to the role and influence of your mother on you, as she was like a father and mother together, so what regarding her?
My mother was of Turkish origin, but she lived in Egypt all her life, where her family came to Egypt and settled in Alexandria, then my mother got married and lived permanently in Cairo, in fact she was an accomplished painter.

Did she have a role in your entry into the world of art, and before that your participation in the “Mama Samiha” program?
In fact, we were not planning this. My whole life was by chance. At first, I found that the school asked me to participate in the gymnastics team, and I won championships for the school. My participation in the children’s programs came following the director, Wafaa Sadiq, saw me in one of the tournaments and asked me and my sister to join the program. Mama Samiha, then choreographer Kamal Naeem saw me on Mama Samiha’s program, and he included me in the national troupe, which was run by a Russian coach.
Who were your colleagues in the Children’s Paradise program?
There are many artists such as the late composer Riyad Al-Hamshari, Hani Shaker, Bossi, Nora, Safaa Abu Al-Saud, Azza Kamal and Ejlal Zaki.
Going back to the national band, how did you join despite your very young age at the time, especially since the band was not allowed to participate at that age?
When I was in the Children’s Paradise program, here was a simple show that Kamal Naim trained us on, and when he gave us a specific movement to perform, he found me presenting it correctly, and he kept giving me more difficult movements, every time I mastered it, so he asked my mother to join the band, but she objected at first Because of my young age compared to the members of the band, but he promised her that he would take care of me, and indeed we went to the Russian coach in charge of the band and he found me very young.

I interrupted her.. Were you aware at that age that you were in one of the most important show teams in the world?
I was not aware of this at all, and even now when they tell me I was the star of the national band, I am not aware of those words, for I have been and still do my work sincerely and with love, and my love to work here in the first place, so now I am offered works that I do not like, or that I do not like Those in charge of it rejected it immediately, regardless of the financial return, “Praise be to God, our Lord will see me, and I do not need to work for the money.”
We return to your joining the national team exceptionally because of your young age.. What are the details?
At that time, I used to participate in dances that included many girls so that I might participate in them. Kamal Naeem choreographed the “Pinola” dance for me, and it consisted of 3 girls dressed in school clothes and holding a curtain.
And she continues laughing: During my presence in the band, the late Rushdi Saleh used to say to me, “My daughter, you are still young and you cannot work with adults. In the event that the late Rushdi Saleh was present, but in the times when he was not present, I would still be there to watch the band’s rehearsals.

And she continues: During that period, Kamal Naim was preparing for the “Bambouti” dance, and at first the dance was attended by a girl and two parents, but Rushdi Saleh kept rejecting that dance, except that Kamal Naim thought of adding another girl with me, and he used one of the influential dancers in the band, who is Dinars , so that Rushdi Salih would not reject it, and indeed the dance became two girls and three boys, and Rushdi Salih approved it, and I was 11 years old at the time.
But working at such an age did not destroy my childhood?
I was dealing with my innocence, and I felt like I was in the middle of my family, as playing for me at this age was training in dances, although it was harsh, but I was used to this matter from gymnastics training.

The experience with the national troupe is rich. Did you feel that you are an essential member of it, especially since following that you became the first dancer?
From the first moment, I felt that I was an essential part of the troupe, and even following I became the first dancer, I did not feel that I was the most important, because as I mentioned, they are my family. After that, I became the presenter of the troupe’s program, and when there were guests from heads of state, I also presented.
Is it true that you traveled 100 countries around the world while participating in the national band?
I have read this number before, but frankly I do not know the number of houses I traveled to, but my first embassy with the band was in 11 European countries, and it took 6 months, but I do not remember the number.
