The Syrian Ministry of Defense revealed the details of what happened in the Moscow quadripartite meeting yesterday, and said: “The issue of the withdrawal of Turkish forces from Syrian territory was discussed, as well as the implementation of the agreement on the international road known as the M4 road.”
And the Turkish Ministry of Defense said: “The quartet meeting between Turkey, Russia, Syria and Iran discussed concrete steps related to the normalization of relations between Turkey and Syria, and indicated that “the issue of intensifying efforts to return Syrian refugees to their country, as well as the issue of combating all terrorist and extremist groups in all their forms, was discussed in Syrian lands.
In turn, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced in a statement that during the quartet meeting, “particular attention was paid to issues of confronting all manifestations of terrorist threats, and combating all extremist groups in Syria.”
“After the talks, the two sides renewed their desire to preserve Syria’s territorial integrity and the need to intensify efforts for the speedy return of Syrian refugees to their homeland,” the statement added.
According to the statement, the defense ministers stressed the constructive nature of the ongoing dialogue in this way and the need to continue it in order to increase the stability of the situation in Syria and the entire region.
On the sidelines of the Moscow talks, Defense Minister General Ali Mahmoud Abbas said, describing his meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Amir Mohammad Reza Ashtiani: “We have agreed on the issues that will be raised in the Moscow talks and will be in the interest of different countries,” according to the Iranian Fars news agency.
Abbas stressed that the Syrian armed forces are fully prepared to establish and maintain security in the entire region.
He continued, “The withdrawal of all illegal forces from Syrian territory is another point that we affirm, and following the withdrawal of all foreign forces from Syria, our armed forces are able to fully establish security in all Syrian lands with the support of the people.”
In turn, Ashtiani said, “We were looking forward to bringing the views on the Syrian crisis in the Moscow quadripartite talks closer to a point that might be a way forward, and that these talks would bear fruit and push them to reach results.”
He added, “We believe that Syria is a capable and strong country, and now the government of this country enjoys full sovereignty over all of Syria, and of course, others must also help in achieving the desired results.”
In subsequent statements by the Iranian minister, reported by IRNA, Ashtiani said: The efforts of Iran and Russia to normalize relations between Turkey and Syria was one of the most important goals of the four-way meeting in Moscow.
Ashtiani pointed out that “Iran is making serious efforts to establish a direct relationship between Syria and Turkey as two neighboring and influential countries in the region and supports the joint efforts between the two countries.” And cooperation ».
