Moscow detained a man with Russian and Italian citizenships accused of sabotage

It is said that the Ukrainian military intelligence gave him instructions.

Since the start of its full-scale war in Ukraine, Moscow has opened dozens of cases over alleged sabotage of key infrastructure and manufacturing facilities, as well as attacks on military recruitment centers.

The FSB security service said in a statement that the suspect, a resident of the Ryazan region south of the capital, derailed a freight train with an explosive device last month.

In early November, an improvised explosive device overturned 19 train cars in the Ryazan region, the FSB claimed.

The man, born in 1988, “placed improvised explosive devices on the railway”, she said, adding that the suspect was also responsible for an earlier attack on an airfield in the same region.

The FSB said that the man “confessed that he was recruited by the Ukrainian military intelligence service in February”, that he trained in sabotage with the Latvian special services in neighboring Latvia, and returned to Ryazan a month later.

The affidavit also said explosives and improvised device components were seized during a search of his home.
