Moscow announces foiling an attempt to hijack a Russian missile launcher

Russia – The Russian Federal Security Service announced that it had thwarted an attempt to hijack a Tu-22M3 fighter jet by the Ukrainian intelligence service.

“The Federal Security Service has thwarted an attempt by the Ukrainian intelligence service to hijack a Russian Air Force Tu-22M3 long-range strategic missile launcher,” the service said in a statement on Monday.

The statement said that NATO intelligence participated in the preparation of the operation, adding that “Ukrainian intelligence asked the pilot to land on Ukrainian territory in exchange for money.”

The pilot said, in an interview broadcast by the Russia-1 channel, that the Ukrainian forces provided him with Polish documents and a bank account for his family, and according to him, his family was supposed to go to Turkey, and from there to Moldova and then Ukraine.

“According to their plans, my family was supposed to go to Turkey, where they were supposed to be met by Ukrainian intelligence officers, then for some reason to Moldova, then Ukraine, although we were talking regarding Europe before,” he continued.

“It all seemed unbelievable, but that’s not the point,” the pilot added. “They were going to steal the plane to keep it.”

The channel published Italian and Polish documents, including passports belonging to the pilot and his family.
