Adèle has just celebrated her 10th birthday, has sold more than 10 million copies of her adventures, and she is going to become independent! Hard blow for Bayard Jeunesse, the publisher of the first 18 volumes of the comic strip, which thus loses its most beautiful nugget. The creator of ” Deadly Adele », Antoine Dole, alias Mr Tanand the illustrator, Diane Le Feyer, have just announced the creation of their own publishing house.
If the third novel of the little girl’s adventures “Debout les bizarres”, in bookstores next month, and volume 19 of the comic strip, scheduled for October, will both be released at Bayard, all the following titles stamped “Mortelle Adèle” will be published by the newly created publishing house. Born ten years ago, the pestouillle with orange duvets and smoldering eyes quickly established itself as a schoolyard phenomenon with stratospheric sales. During the lockdown, she blew up the meters : of the 20 best-selling comic books in France (Livres Hebdo GFK ranking), 14 were adventures of the young heroine.
“We are committed today, as creators and artists, to invest ourselves even more in the developments and projects to come around our heroine, write Antoine Dole and Diane Le Feyer in a press release. To do it as closely as possible to our artistic desires, we create our house. Since its inception, Mortelle Adèle has encouraged children to take over the world, to celebrate their inner strength, to say no and to disobey when the situation demands it. Whether you are an adult or a child, the message she sends us remains the same: always go towards your truth, and what will make you happy. »
Antoine Dole is not the first comic book author to want to fly on his own. Last September, Riad Sattouf had announced that if the last volume of “the Arab of the future” would come out well with his publisher Allary, he would publish his next creations himself. In general literature, Joël Dicker also became a publisher.
