Mortal Kombat: Onslaught will shut down its servers one year after its launch

In October 2023, NetherRealm Studios released Mortal Kombat: Outlaught, a new collector-based real-time role-playing game (cRPG) for iOS and Android devices featuring team-based combat set in the legendary Mortal Kombat universe.

Now, just one year after its launch, the studio has made the decision to shut down its servers completely.

The game’s developers have confirmed that it will be shutting down in October and will no longer be available for download as of July 22. Prior to the removal from the store, the X/Twitter official account of the game revealed some dates that players should keep in mind.

“Mortal Kombat: Onslaught will be shutting down on 10/21/24. The game will be removed from the App Store and Google Play on 7/22/24, and in-game purchases will be disabled on 8/23/24. Players can enjoy the game until 10/21/24. It has been an honor to create this game for our community.”

Players of this title did not take this news very well, since, as happens with any game closure, there are loyal people who still enjoy it day after day and wait for new content.

At this time, it is unclear whether the closure of Mortal Kombat: Onslaught is due to recent layoffs at NetherRealm Studios or whether it is due to low player engagement and Warner Bros. Games looking to cut costs in the long term.

Of course, players who invested real money in the game will be the most affected by not getting their money back when it closes. Even the exclusive voice content of the original Sub-Zero that players obtained by linking their WB Games account and reaching level 20 could be lost entirely unless NetherRealm takes action.
