Morocco has increased its vegetable exports to Poland over the past five years, as reported by EastFruit. Between 2018 and 2022, total Moroccan vegetable export revenues amounted to $5.3 billion, mostly dominated by tomatoes and peppers.
This increase in exports relates, to a large extent, to tomatoes since they constitute the largest share in total exports. Thus, this variety of food products represents regarding 9% of total vegetable imports in Poland, which imports, in addition to Morocco, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany and France. Since 2018, the Kingdom has won its place among the list of exporting countries to Poland and has become the 28th supplier in 2022.
However, Poland is not the only country to have contributed to Moroccan vegetable exports. Indeed, those made to Romania also made a remarkable leap in 2022, reaching 1.3 million dollars in 2022 (multiplied by 80 since 2018).
Unlike Poland, tomatoes accounted for only 6% of Moroccan vegetable exports to Romania, on the other hand, nearly 93% of these concern peppers. Romania imports vegetables mainly from Turkey, the Netherlands, Spain, Poland and Hungary. Morocco has managed to earn its place in the ranking in five-year intervals and has become the 21st supplier following being ranked 43rd.
In addition, Moroccan vegetables are gaining popularity, especially in Norway. In 2018, Morocco exported only very limited quantities of potatoes to the Norwegian market. In 2019, exports practically fell to zero. Despite this, in 2020 Moroccan producers made a strong comeback to the Norwegian market and since then the volume of trade has continued to grow. Tomato now accounts for nearly 97% of Moroccan vegetable exports to Norway, with an estimated export volume of $1.3 million in 2022. This figure has allowed Morocco to become the 20th supplier of vegetables to the Norwegian market.
Along the same lines, the Czech Republic is also among Morocco’s customers. Thus, in 2022, Moroccan export revenues totaled $2.5 million, i.e. a volume multiplied by 35 since 2018. The Kingdom is now the 18th supplier of vegetables to the Czech Republic.
The same is true for Belgium where revenues from Moroccan vegetable exports to this market were multiplied by 43 and reached nearly 4 million dollars, Morocco thus becoming the 23rd supplier.
As a reminder, the five countries mentioned above represent only 0.5% of Morocco’s total vegetable exports. Trade volumes remain lower than those of France, Spain, the United Kingdom or the Netherlands, however, their growth rate is rapid.
