As Morocco seeks to move forward to position itself in the big leagues in gaming, this industry continues to bring its best to the national economy. According to figures released by the “Statista” platform specializing in statistics, this sector has allowed Morocco to earn 218.5 million dollars in 2023, the equivalent of more than 220 billion dirhams once morest 189.5 million dollars. in 2022, an increase of 15%.
Morocco’s receipts in the electronic games industry have, moreover, been on an upward trend since 2019 when they reached 122.9 billion, 151.8 million dollars in 2020 then 177.6 million dollars in 2021.
It should therefore be noted that Morocco only earns 0.07% of the total revenue of the electronic games industry in the world, estimated at more than 175 billion dollars in 2022. That said, the country remains a great shortfall in this sector, which over time has become a vector of development worth billions of dollars worldwide.
Despite their importance, the Kingdom’s revenue is able to improve thanks to its assets, in particular its wide market which has approximately 3 million active players, its adequate infrastructure, its incentive business environment, in addition to the geographical proximity and the factors cultural and linguistic.
The country is also positioned in the gaming production niche. Every day, new electronic game platforms with free access are born, thus making it possible to democratize E-sports and make it a source of wealth.
All these assets mean that the Moroccan video game market is becoming one of the most prosperous markets in the Middle East and North Africa region. It is regarding to experience a major boom, especially following the Kingdom’s investments have come to fruition, particularly for the creation of games, the organization of tournaments, the setting up of game rooms, production studios and even the construction of the famous “Cité du gaming”.
This project announced by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication during the “Morocco E-Sport Summit”, held last October, aims to set up a structured and sustainable ecosystem that creates jobs and added value. and therefore able to put Morocco on the international radar of this industry.
Nestled in a strategic location in the heart of Rabat, the new City of Gaming should be built on an area of 58,000 m3 in partnership between the public and private sectors.
This new city will meet the requirements of a high-level infrastructure capable of supporting a complete service offer and above all capable of attracting global players to Morocco, in search of platforms for the development of their activities. Thus, Morocco aims to create 3,300 jobs at the City level and 5,000 in the entire ecosystem. Figures that remain achievable given the great potential of the Kingdom in this sense.
