The recent 20th edition of the Continuous Plastic Spring of Youth Morocco held recently in Agadir was a great success. Organized on the theme “Culture of plastic and visual arts: a fundamental basis for activating school life and refining the taste of the citizen of tomorrow”, this event was marked by a rich and varied program: round tables, art workshops led by renowned professionals in different artistic disciplines, tributes, competitions… And among the highlights of the festival: the awarding of the Mohamed Adib Slaoui Prize awarded to the art critic and researcher Dr Abdallah Cheikh and to the painter Mohammed Saud. The Agadir Prize for plastic creativity goes to the sculptor M’Hammed El Aadi.
Morocco’s Continuous Plastic Spring for Youth celebrated its twentieth birthday recently in Agadir. This event brought together visual artists, art critics and academics from various backgrounds around a rich and varied program. This edition opened with an exhibition of educational art and parallel activities. An educational art exhibition where works by students and a sample of works of art by professionals met as part of the solidarity initiative “The Heart of an Artist”. A special pavilion was reserved for the works of the members of the Club l’Enfance et la Jeunesse des Arts Plastiques. The program for this edition also included the screening of a video offering a brief overview of the Association’s journey over 29 years of engaged plastic creation in Morocco. An interactive artistic awareness-raising workshop led by the art lecturer, artist, writer and lecturer L’Altrange from Spain was also offered.
This 20th edition was marked by the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the participants who benefited from the training course in the field of graphic arts. Two competitions were also launched. The first concerned the art of architectural design and the production of models related to the works exhibited in the hall and the second was dedicated to the preparation and presentation of a report on the acts of the Festival, reserved for participants and student organizers. .
During this edition, UNIVERSIAPOLIS hosted a study day on the theme: “Meetings and events of visual arts: what contribution to social and cultural tourism”. The first session led by Dr Abdellah Cheikh focused on these thematic sections: Pedagogy of sharing, routine or creativity? (L’Altrange), the role of plastic art in the cultural animation of tourist sites and towns (Dr . Brahim Moudoud), the associative act in visual arts: Educational, promotional and solidarity initiatives (Pr. Bachir Chachaï). The second session conducted under the direction of Dr. Brahim Moudoud focused on the following questions: The role of plastic arts exhibitions in the refinement of young talents: the Agadir Association of Plastic Arts as an exemplary model (Pr. Said Mouzoune), Visual arts manifestations, sustainability, durability and cessation (Pr. Mohammed Saoud), artistic manifestations and the challenges of cultural tourism (Dr. Abdallah Cheikh).
The program of the third phase of the 20th edition of Morocco’s Continuous Plastic Spring for Youth was closed with a sculpture workshop for the benefit of students, led by the artist M’Hammed El Aadi. The exhibition was then transferred to the Cultural Complex of Khaïr Eddine, then to the Lycée Mohammed VI, with the projection of the reports produced by the students, within the framework of a competition at the end of which the prize for the best report was awarded. .
Three key figures of the Moroccan artistic scene awarded
One of the outstanding episodes of this 20th edition of the Festival, initiated by the Agadir Association of Plastic Arts, was the consecration of three illustrious figures of the Moroccan artistic scene: Dr Abdallah Cheikh, the painter Mohammed Saoud and the sculptor M’ Hammed El Aadi.
Art critic and researcher in aesthetics, Abdallah Cheikh, born in Essaouira in 1969, has devoted his life for several decades to critical writing and higher education in various disciplines ranging from the history of art to that of civilizations through the analysis of the image, documentary films, theories and history of design… It is for this reason that he was awarded the Mohamed Adib Slaoui Prize in research and art criticism.
Abdallah Cheikh holds several academic degrees, including a doctorate from the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences Ben M’sik for his thesis “Communication and strategies in the image era: mediological approach” (2012). He is also the author of numerous publications in Arabic and French, including “The voices of silence: monographic writings” (volume I), “Kenza El Moukdasni: eye of the heart”, “Boujmâa Lakhdar: the magic of the sign”, “ChaïbiaTalal: a living legend”… He is also the coordinator of several collective works including “Cinema and desert”, “Cinema and human rights”, “Hassan Cheikh: memory and imagination”, among others.
Founder of the “Arts et Métiers” Association, Director of the International Student Film Festival (FIFE), Member of the International Fine Arts Forum (Fine Arts Forum International), Abdellah Cheikh has also translated the entire work published by visual artist and writer Loubaba Laalej: “Fragments”, “Wandering thoughts”, “Icons of feminine plasticity”, Mysticity and plasticity”, “Melhoun and painting”, “Poetry and painting”, “Whispering of the silence”, “Music and plasticity” (Volume I and Volume II), “Living with oneself”, “Living together”… In 2022, he obtained the Sharjah Prize for critical research in visual arts for his work entitled “Les techniques of Arab artistic criticism: a mediating approach to certain contemporary Moroccan models”.
For his part, painter, writer, art critic and graphic designer Mohammed Saoud was awarded the Mohamed Adib Slaoui Prize for research and art criticism during this edition of the Festival. Born on July 4, 1959, he has designed and produced several posters, logos and jackets for novels, collections and catalogues. He is also the facilitator of several art and communication workshops.
Finally, the sculptor M’Hammed El Aadi obtained the Agadir Prize for plastic creativity. Born in 1959, this self-taught Moroccan sculptor knew how to dig his furrow in the art of sculpture. Whether at the level of commemorations, individual or collective exhibitions, both in Morocco and abroad, or through local symposiums or under other skies, Mohamed El Aadi has always distinguished himself as an artist. confirmed and of great talent.
