Morocco willing “to support all serious initiatives” in favor of Africa

ISpeaking at the closing ceremony of the 7th Annual General Meeting of the African Parliamentarians Network for Evaluation and Development (APNODE), held under the theme “Effective Parliamentary Public Engagement for Inclusive Development”, Speaker of the House of advisers, Naama Mayara, noted that Morocco is determined to support this Network to enable it to achieve its development objectives, noting that the various parliaments of the continent share the same values ​​and the same desire to serve the peoples that they represent.

“The next few years will be decisive in ensuring a profound economic and social transition in Africa”he said, highlighting the natural and human wealth that abounds in the continent, able to ensure the prosperity and stability of its peoples.

Development is currently the main component of the continental and global agendas, indicated the president of the legislative institution, underlining the particular context marked by the post-covid economic recovery, the instability of the markets caused by the geopolitical crisis in the Azov Sea. , as well as the process of reconfiguring value and logistics chains.

A new African model

Mayara did not fail to address the need to design a new African model of parliamentary action aimed at strengthening development mechanisms at national and continental levels, stressing that African parliaments are called upon to meet all the challenges of common agendas. development in an innovative, realistic and pragmatic way.

Finally, the Speaker of the House of Councilors welcomed the organization of the APNODE General Assembly in Morocco, recalling that the Kingdom is the first country in the North African region to organize this great institutional event.

For his part, the president of APNODE and deputy to the general assembly of Benin, Jérémie Adomahou, expressed his will “to enlarge and increase the African Parliamentarians Network for Development Evaluation, with a view to integrating the 54 countries of Africa”.

Adomahou thanked the Kingdom of Morocco for “successful organization” of this meeting, while praising the hard work of the members of the Network’s secretariat.

For their part, representatives of African parliaments congratulated the Kingdom for holding this 7th Annual General Assembly of APNODE, a meeting which comes to consecrate the culture of evaluation on the continent, promote its development and stimulate the role of parliaments.

Several African countries have made significant gains in the achievement of the SDGs, in light of the current challenges and issues of the African continent, they underlined, calling on African parliaments to redouble their efforts for more progress and growth.

The work of the APNODE General Assembly, which was spread over three days (August 1-3), revolved around several panels dealing in particular with the annual report of APNODE and the institutionalization of the evaluation as a tool of governance, with the main theme “Effective parliamentary public engagement for inclusive development”.
