Morocco receives the first Caeser guns ordered from the French Nexter

Ordered in 2020 from the French arms company Nexter, a first batch of the 36 Caesar artillery pieces, has just been delivered to the Royal Armed Forces (FAR). The announcement was made Friday, September 2 on the page Facebook of “Far Morocco” who shared on this occasion a photo showing several of these powerful guns, circulating in a Moroccan city.

The FAR reinforce their artillery. The French firm Nexter delivered them a first batch of 36 Caeser guns. The order was launched in 2020 for 200 million euros for the sale of Caesar truck artillery systems (170 million) and its ammunition (30 million).

These Caesar self-propelled guns are ranked among the best and most powerful self-propelled howitzers in the world today. A battery of 8 artillery units can fire over a ton of ammunition in a minute, 1,500 cluster bombs or 48 smart anti-tank guided projectiles. The gun can also fire several types of conventional and smart general-purpose shells, including the so-called “Ogre Shell”, which is a shell equipped with cluster bomblets intended to hit lightly armored targets, such as armored personnel carriers. light combat units, artillery and missile batteries, command centers and logistical support. Each shell contains 63 submunitions, each equipped with a self-destruct system, capable of penetrating up to 90 millimeters of armour.

These Caeser guns have proven themselves as recently in Ukraine. France delivered a batch of 18 units to kyiv to fight once morest the Russian offensive. A delivery that denies the rumors claiming that France would have redirected the Moroccan order to Ukraine.

According to “FAR Morocco”, “the acquisition of this system by the FAR falls within a very specific framework, that of the modernization of artillery means in general, and with the ground-to-ground Caesar in particular”. And to add: “This type of mobile and quick-to-start system will considerably strengthen the firepower of the Royal Moroccan artillery, thus providing effective support on the ground to the various infantry and mechanized brigades, among others. “.
