FIFA announced in a press release made public this Wednesday that the European, African and South American confederations have agreed, in a “unanimous” decision around a single candidacy for the 2030 World Cup. Morocco, Portugal and Spain will host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, with three matches to be played in South America.
“In 2030, the FIFA World Cup will bring together three continents and six countries, inviting the entire world to join in the celebration of the beautiful game, the Centenary and the FIFA World Cup itself. FIFA unanimously agreed that the only bid would be the combined bid of Morocco, Portugal and Spain, who will host the event in 2030,” read the FIFA statement.
The statement reported the statements of Gianni Infantino, FIFA President, who welcomed the decision by declaring, “In a divided world, FIFA and football unite”, and adding “The FIFA Council, representing the entire world of football, has unanimously decided to celebrate in the most appropriate way the centenary of the FIFA World Cup, the first edition of which took place in Uruguay in 1930”.
According to the FIFA president, the next celebration of the FIFA World Cup will also take place in three South American countries – Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay – which will organize one match each during the FIFA World Cup. FIFA World 2030.
He also said that “the first of these three matches will of course be played at the stadium where it all began, in the legendary Estádio Centenário in Montevideo, precisely to celebrate the centenary of the FIFA World Cup.”
“The FIFA Council also unanimously accepted that the only candidacy for the organization of the 2030 FIFA World Cup will be the joint candidacy of Morocco, Portugal and Spain,” added the president of FIFA.
