Morocco has great potential to promote the local manufacture of lithium batteries

Morocco has great potential to promote the local manufacture of lithium batteries, said Moroccan physico-chemist and inventor of the graphite anode for lithium-ion batteries, Rachid Yazami.

He expressed the wish to launch structuring projects in Morocco with the contribution of foreign and Moroccan actors, like the Masen project which concerns the integrated development of renewable energy installations, the contribution to the emergence of a national expertise in the field of renewable energies and the territorial development of the areas of establishment according to a sustainable model.

In the same vein, Rachid Yazami spoke of the importance of renewable energies and clean energies in the development of industries, economies and ecosystems, emphasizing the major role of scientific research in boosting inventions.

Scientific research is the key to any society towards the future, he said in particular, stressing the role of institutions and universities in encouraging and supporting young people in this direction.

He thus mentioned the setting up of the center of excellence on batteries launched at the private university of Fez (UPF) which aspires to carry out cutting-edge research in the field of the smart battery of the future, to develop studies, expertise and battery testing for industrial partners and enter into academic and industrial partnerships nationally and internationally.

Professor Rachid Yazami, President of the Scientific Council of the UPF, highlighted the importance of the center of excellence on batteries, expressing the wish to see this scientific structure serve as a model of excellence for Moroccan research in fields of energy and batteries.
