Morocco/electric power: 3.2% increase in production in H1-2022 (DEPF)

This improvement, at the end of June 2022, stems in particular from the increase in the production of the National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) by 31.6% and that of renewable energies relating to the law 13-09 by 10%, mitigated by the withdrawal of private production by 4.7%, specifies the DEPF in its economic note of August 2022. Compared to the same period of the pre-crisis year (2019) , the production of electrical energy continues to rise: +3% at the end of June, following +1.7% at the end of March 2022 and -0.1% at the end of June 2021, adds the same source. As for net called production, it appreciated by 5.6% at the end of June 2022, following +6.9% a year earlier. Also, the volume of imported energy increased by 161.3% (following -26.9%). As for the exported volume, it decreased by 18.5% (following +51.3%). With regard to the consumption of electrical energy, its growth accelerated in the second quarter of 2022, amounting to +7.6% following +2.2% in Q1-2022. This increase is attributable to the firming up of energy sales sent to distributors by 6.2% (following +0.9%), those of medium voltage by 7.5% (following +7.8%) and those of of “Very high and high voltage”, used mainly by the manufacturing sector, by 10.8% (following -4.5%) as well as those intended for households by 9% (following +1.7%).

Compared to the same quarter of 2019, the consumption of electrical energy increased by 9.8%, following +4.3% a quarter earlier, said the DEPF. At the end of the first half of 2022, the consumption of electrical energy appreciated in one year by 4.9%, following +7.4% a year earlier, covering an increase in energy sales of “Very high , High and Medium Voltage, excluding distributors” by 6.3%, those sent to distributors by 3.6% and those to households by 5.5%. Compared to the end of June 2019, the consumption of electrical energy increased by 7.1%.
