The Ministry of the Interior indicated in a press release that Morocco had responded favorably, “at this stage”, to the offers of these four countries “to send search and rescue teams”, while several other states, notably the France, said they were ready to provide assistance.

The Spanish, British, Qatari and Emirati rescue teams “entered into contact today (Sunday)” with their counterparts in Morocco with a view to coordinating their efforts, added the same source.

While thanking all the countries which offered to send rescuers, the ministry affirms that Morocco accepted that of four of them only “following having carried out a careful assessment of the needs on the ground and taking into account the fact that a lack of coordination might be counterproductive.

Other offers might be accepted in the future “if needs evolve,” the press release specifies.

Many countries, from France to the United States, including Israel, had offered their help to Morocco following the devastating earthquake which left more than 2,100 dead.

France is ready to “intervene” to help Morocco “the second” the Moroccan authorities request it, President Emmanuel Macron declared on Sunday.

“We have mobilized all technical and security teams to be able to intervene when the Moroccan authorities deem it useful,” he said during a press conference following the G20 summit in New Delhi. , calling the earthquake “a tragedy that affects us all.”
