The Minister in charge of relations with Parliament, the official spokesman for the government, Mustafa Paytas, confirmed today, Thursday, April 18, 2024, that the government is working to double the import of sheep destined for slaughter on the upcoming Eid al-Adha, compared to last year.

Mr. Paytas said, during a press interview following the weekly meeting of the Government Council, “There is a desire to double the number of imports of Eid sacrifices during this year, as there is currently talk of importing 600,000 heads of sheep, and the number may exceed this ceiling.”

The minister stressed that establishing an import mechanism is not enough to achieve the desired response, noting that the government is working to “simplify and legalize the path that was taken last year, in order to facilitate the import process and enable the Eid to pass under good conditions.”

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests, in his response to an oral question regarding “measures taken to welcome Eid al-Adha” in the Council of Advisors, the day before yesterday, Tuesday, stated that, to date, regarding two million heads of sheep have been numbered, as part of the preparations for Eid al-Adha. .

The Minister recorded that 34 temporary markets had been prepared to strengthen the existing markets, and 210,000 fattening units had been registered, noting that the import of livestock had been temporarily opened for the second year in a row, and the launch of a request for offers for sheep destined for Eid al-Adha, with a size of 600,000 heads, subject to increase.
