Morocco authorizes use of “Molnupiravir” against Covid-19

The protocol for the treatment of patients with Covid-19 by this drug was proactively strengthened, following its approval last Tuesday by the members of the national scientific and technical committee, with the aim of stemming the acute respiratory illnesses, Meddah said in a statement to MAP.

This drug has been shown to be effective and reduce the risk of severe cases and death by 50%, especially if given within the first five days of infection, Meddah said.

The Ministry of Health and Social Protection has obtained all the documents and data, which have been carefully examined to verify that this drug is of good quality and without risk for the patients, assured the person in charge, adding that samples of this drug were analyzed by the national drug control laboratory, which concluded with the same result.

Like some countries such as Great Britain, the United States and Japan, this drug is authorized for the treatment of patients with Covid-19 and several other countries have ordered it to make it available to the public. public, she noted.

This drug requires a prescription from a doctor and is available in public hospitals, CHUs and private clinics, she explained, adding that it will also be delivered to pharmacies.

Likewise, Merck has authorized several laboratories to manufacture generic versions to allow everyone quick access to the drug, she said.

The ministry, she recalls, urges citizens to complete their vaccination schedule and to adhere to preventive measures in order to contain the virus, especially the Omicron variant which spreads very quickly and affects some 70% of cases.
