Morocco aspires to produce 2 million cars in 2030

By 2030, Morocco wants to move up a gear in the development of its automotive industry. This was announced by the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, who expressed Morocco’s desire to accelerate the production of cars to reach 2 million units.

The Minister, who responded” target=”_blank”>to questions from Internet users on the Facebook page of his department, said that the Kingdom will be able to produce one million cars in the next three years. According to him, the national industry is competitive enough to reach the goal of two million cars. Mr. Mezzour cited as an example the integration rate which reached 69%. A rate which he described as significant but which needs to be revised upwards in the eyes of the Istiqlalian minister who estimates that it is necessary to reach 89% integration to make the Kingdom the industrial platform “the most competitive in the world”. world”.

So far, the factories of Renault and Stellantis manage to produce 700,000 cars a year. This has made the automotive industry the second largest export sector in the Kingdom with sales estimated at 8.4 billion dollars at the end of October 2022.

In addition to the production of foreign brands on national soil, Morocco, let us remember, aspires to develop its own brand. This was announced by Ryad Mezzour himself on Wednesday December 28. He announced a future factory project dedicated to the manufacture of a 100% local car with 100% Moroccan investment. A project that should cost 50 million euros.

Regarding electric cars, their development in Morocco depends on demand from the external market, the minister said in response to a question from an Internet user. “We produce according to demand,” he explained, adding that Morocco’s first customer, the European market, has opted to ban thermal cars by 2035. This might probably influence production. car national.

The main thing, in the eyes of Mr. Mezzour, is that the Kingdom be able to produce both thermal cars and electric cars. This is why it is important, he thinks, to have the capacity to produce electric motors with their batteries.

Remember, in this regard, that Morocco currently produces 50,000 electric cars per year.
