Morocco and France announce an “exceptional partnership” that is the first of its kind outside Europe

King Mohammed VI, King of Morocco, held in-depth discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron, which dealt with the issue of moving towards a new phase in the strong relations between the two countries, within the framework of an “exceptional, renewed partnership” and a strategic roadmap for the coming years.

According to a statement by the Moroccan Royal Court, the leaders of the two countries intend to give a decisive impetus to the multidimensional relations between Morocco and France, taking into account the ambitions of Morocco and France, and to confront international developments and challenges together.

The discussions dealt with regional and international issues, and the two sides agreed to work in a coordinated manner to strengthen the Euro-Mediterranean, African and Atlantic orientation, within an approach to joint action that serves prosperity and sustainable human development.

The French President praised the constructive role played by the Moroccan King, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, in the service of peace in the Middle East, and the leaders of the two countries called for an immediate cessation of attacks in Gaza and Lebanon, while stressing the priority of protecting the civilian population, and the importance of ensuring and facilitating the arrival of adequate humanitarian aid, while placing An end to inflaming the situation at the regional level.

The leaders of the two countries reminded of the urgency of reviving the peace process within the framework of the two-state solution and establishing an independent Palestinian state, on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

On Monday, the Moroccan King and the French President chaired the signing ceremony of 22 agreements through which relations and cooperation will be strengthened in various fields, in the presence of the Moroccan Prime Minister, a number of senior members of the Moroccan government and officials, and members of the delegation accompanying the French President.

The partnership includes a number of strategic sectors, including cooperation in the field of security and defence, infrastructure and renewable energies, water management and food security.

This shift in relations between the two countries comes after a “silent diplomatic crisis” that lasted for about 3 years between the two countries, due to a number of files, including accusations against Morocco of using the “Pegasus” program for espionage, and France reducing the number of visas granted to Moroccans in response to what it saw as “the lack of Cooperation” on the issue of irregular migration.
