Morocco.. $100 increase in the salaries of public sector employees

Rabat – The Moroccan government announced, on Monday, an increase in the monthly wages of public sector employees by 1,000 dirhams ($100), in addition to raising the minimum wage in the private sector by 10 percent..

This came in a statement by Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch to the press, following the signing of an agreement between the government and the unions.

Akhannouch said, according to the statement, a copy of which was obtained by Anadolu’s correspondent: “The government, within the framework of the new round of social dialogue, was able to take a set of measures to improve the income of private and public sector employees.”

He added: “It was decided to raise the wages of public sector employees by 1,000 dirhams ($100) per month, half of which will be paid as of the beginning of next July, and the second half as of July 2025.”

He continued: “The income tax will be reduced by an amount of up to 400 dirhams ($40)” per month.

He added: “It was agreed to raise the minimum wage for the private sector by 10 percent, 5 percent starting next January, and 5 percent starting January 2026.”

The minimum wage currently stands at 3,120 dirhams ($312), before the increase scheduled today.

The agreement includes a set of mutual obligations, which include, in addition to wage increases, the involvement of unions in preparing texts related to pension reform and exercising the right to strike.

The Moroccan government’s signing of the social agreement with the unions comes two days before the celebration of International Workers’ Day on May 1, 2024.
