In Casablanca, Rabat, Salé, Fez and many cities in Morocco, spontaneous initiatives appeared by young people carrying the concerns of those affected by the earthquake, who have been sleeping outdoors since the night of the tragedy.

Many Moroccan youth came to support their brothers who were affected by the earthquake in the center of the country, so they set out to collect in-kind donations of food, drink, blankets, and cleaning materials.

Spontaneous initiatives

Mohamed Saeed, a young man who lives in the capital, Rabat, and owns a grocery store, took the initiative to fill several cardboard boxes with preserves and canned food, which he will send with volunteers to the areas affected by the earthquake.

He said in an interview with Sky News Arabia: “Everyone must provide support. Basic materials and necessities must be sent.”

He added: “What must be sent is bread, water, and milk, in addition to canned food, such as cheese, tuna, and canned sardines.”

On social media, calls spread to speed up the transportation of tents and blankets to protect the homeless from the extreme cold.

Regulations have also been published for reliable local associations that can distribute aid and know the affected towns well.

Calls were launched nationwide for all bakeries to mobilize during this critical period, as solidarity shipments arrived containing thousands of bread units, others are on the way, and others are being prepared.

On the other hand, a number of apartment owners in areas adjacent to Al Haouz Province, the area most affected by the earthquake, granted free accommodation to donors and volunteers coming from various Moroccan regions, with the aim of facilitating their mission and not burdening them with the burden of paying the costs of staying in hotels.

Professionals working for free

At a time when Moroccan political parties called on private sector doctors and staff to join public hospitals, especially health centers in villages affected by the disaster, to provide the duty of assistance, volunteer doctors, especially in orthopedics, internal medicine, and chronic diseases, took the initiative to provide their services free of charge to those affected by the earthquake.

Psychiatrists established a listening cell, making their phone numbers available to those affected, in order to provide them with psychological support and accompany them in order to overcome their ordeal.

According to Jalal, one of the founding professionals of this cell, this voluntary initiative came to break the isolation of the residents of the affected areas and provide them with support, because “in some cases, a person needs psychological support more than his need for food and blankets,” according to what he said in his interview with the website. “Sky News Arabia”.

The rescue teams, defying the rugged terrain and all the difficulties, continue the search for potential survivors under the rubble and recover the victims of the violent earthquake that struck on Friday night in the Al Haouz region and other regions of the Kingdom, leaving, according to the latest toll, more than 2,100 dead.
