Moroccan technicians announce continuous protests for two months, calling for the achievement of a set of demands

The National Authority of Moroccan Technicians is preparing to organize new protests and strikes throughout the months of July and August, in order to demand the achievement of a number of demands.

In this context, the Authority called on all technicians to go on national strikes for 24 hours every Wednesday during the month of July 2024 and every Thursday during the month of August of the same year, accompanied by regional and central protests, the date of which will be announced later.

According to Amin Sadok, head of the National Authority for Technicians, this protest program “came as a result of the government’s failure to respond to the demands, and as a result of the absence of the demands of the technicians’ category from the central social dialogue and the resulting April 29 agreement between the trade union centers and the government.”

Sadouq explained that “the current social situation, characterized by soaring prices and the high cost of raw materials, has resulted in a weak purchasing power among most segments of the Moroccan population, including technicians, which has increased the intensity of the protests and demands for higher wages,” adding that “the situation is going from bad to worse, which portends social unrest without any serious initiative by the government to contain the situation.”

The union activist stressed that “technicians play very important and essential roles, while they are deprived of any incentives, whether they have a material or administrative impact,” noting that “this is the fundamental reason for the protest,” according to his expression.

It is worth noting that the National Authority of Moroccan Technicians is committed to responding to the demands of technicians who live in “dire conditions” in all sectors due to “low wages, high cost of living, and the violation of their rights and gains.”

Among the Commission’s demands are “amending the bylaws of the Joint Inter-Ministerial Technicians’ Authority in accordance with the Commission’s proposals, including its provisions in all sectoral ministerial basic laws, and deleting levels 8 and 9 for the category of technicians and integrating them into level 10 for state technicians, similar to other categories.”
