Moroccan Rabha El Haymar Receives International Women of Courage Award: Highlighting Morocco’s Progressive Women’s Rights Reforms

The “International Women of Courage 2024” prize awarded, Monday in Washington, to the Moroccan Rabha El Haymar, reflects the virtuous dynamic of reforms initiated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, underlined the ambassador of HM the King to the United States , Youssef Amrani, noting that this important process places women at the heart of Morocco’s development policies.
Mr. Amrani noted in this regard that the Moudouwana adopted in 2004 constituted in many respects a decisive turning point in terms of the emancipation of women and the protection of their rights and made the Kingdom a model in the region.

“This modernist reform had the virtue of consolidating the democratic process of society capable of ensuring equality and fairness between men and women and the preservation of the ethical values ​​of the family, in accordance with the unifying constants of the Morocco,” the ambassador told MAP after the award ceremony organized at the White House.
He further stressed that the irrevocable choice made by Morocco under the leadership of His Majesty the King in favor of fundamental rights and freedoms was also confirmed by the 2011 Constitution which stipulates equality between men and women. women in all fields.

These multiple reforms have not only made it possible to fight against all forms of discrimination against women but also to consolidate their autonomy, strengthening and promoting their role and their active participation in the political, economic and social life of the country, observed HM the King’s ambassador in Washington.

For the ambassador, His Majesty the King opened the debate for a new reform of the family code capable of consolidating the achievements in favor of women and the family by calling, during the 2022 Speech from the Throne, for operationalization and updating of national legislation dedicated to the promotion of these rights.

This new reform is carried out according to a consultative approach which includes all the components and trends of Moroccan society, while respecting the values ​​of justice and equity of our identity framework, noted Mr. Amrani.

Noting that Morocco has also made the issue of women’s rights an essential component of its action on the international scene by subscribing to numerous international conventions and cooperation programs aimed at the protection and promotion of their legitimate rights, the diplomat considered that this award is further recognition of Morocco’s pioneering approach to women’s rights.

This prize was awarded to Ms. El Haymar by the First Lady of the United States, Jill Biden and the American Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, during this ceremony held in the presence of Mr. Amrani, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited to Washington and eminent personalities of the world.
