Moroccan Olive Sector Shines at Summer Fancy Food Show in New York: Expanding Presence in the Growing U.S. Specialty Food Market

No less than 40 Moroccan exhibitors are present at the Summer Fancy Food show in New York this year.

A delegation twice as large as the previous year made up of industrialists and cooperatives from the agri-food and fisheries sectors.

A good number of operators in the olive sector are busy at the national pavilion set up over an area of ​​390m2 and comprising a range of products: olive oil, olives, confectionery, couscous and pasta, canned sardines and mackerel, as well as aromatic herbs and local products.

On the occasion of the show, Moroccan olive oil exhibitors are working hard with the ambition of reinforcing the growing reputation of Moroccan products on the American market.

Over three days, this fair attracts more than 20,000 professionals from all over the world.

To buyers, exporters, sourcing factories, specialized distributors, hotel chains and chefs, Moroccan companies have the argument of a competitive offer with high added value, and the quality of Moroccan products rich in flavor. Competition is fierce indeed to respond effectively to the varied needs of American demand.

The Moroccan olive sector is at the forefront of technology, adopts sustainable practices that protect the environment and natural resources and preserve the genetic diversity, the soil and the surrounding landscape, indicates Morocco Foodex, the public body in charge of the control and coordination of agricultural and agri-food exports.

Over the past year, Morocco has recorded remarkable results in its exports to the United States. Moroccan exports of agri-food products to this market reached a volume of around 169,000 tonnes in 2022, thus recording a growth of 65% compared to 2019, and 59% compared to 2021.

Considered a cosmopolitan country, the United States is a vast territory where each state is different from the other. The heterogeneity of the population contributes to the development of the country’s wealth and to the emergence of new food consumption trends focused on health and the Mediterranean diet, making the American market a market with high potential for Moroccan products.

This context is “promising”, assures a Moroccan operator for whom Moroccan olive oil is recognized thanks to its high taste quality, its traceability, and its richness in acids, antioxidants and natural polyphenols, all key factors for consolidate Morocco’s position on the American market.

“The Moroccan olive sector is firmly committed to maintaining its leadership in the country’s exportable supply and to continuing to assert itself as a supplier of great reliability in the world olive oil market,” he maintains.

The U.S. specialty food market will reach $207 billion by the end of 2023, a significant growth from $194 billion last year. These foods also make up 22% of groceries, nearly double what they were a decade ago.
