Moroccan-Hungarian discussions to enhance economic cooperation

Rabat – Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch and his Hungarian counterpart, Viktor Orbán, discussed strengthening and developing economic cooperation between the two countries.

This came in a post by Akhannouch on the “X” platform yesterday, Saturday, the day after he received Orban on Friday in the city of Marrakesh, as part of the latter’s visit to the Kingdom of indefinite duration.

During the bilateral meeting, “the strength of relations between Morocco and Hungary was highlighted,” according to the circular.

He pointed out that “relations have witnessed significant development in recent years thanks to the keenness of King Mohammed VI to diversify partnerships with European Union countries.”

According to Akhannouch, the meeting was “an occasion to discuss the importance of strengthening and developing economic cooperation between the two countries, especially since Morocco is considered Hungary’s first trading partner on the African continent.”

He pointed out that “bilateral trade exchanges amounted to about 4.1 billion dirhams (382 million euros) in 2022, an increase of approximately 25 percent compared to 2021.”

According to the statement, the discussions touched on the two countries’ preparations to hold the fifth session of the Moroccan-Hungarian Joint Economic Committee in October 2024 in the Kingdom.

Relations between Morocco and Hungary have witnessed development over the past years, especially in the economy, trade exchanges, and higher education, as Moroccan students pursue their higher studies in Hungary, which provides about 200 scholarships for them.
