Moroccan exports up at the end of August 2022

Sales of phosphates and derivatives, among others, increased by 67.7% to more than 77.89 billion dirhams (MMDH) at the end of August 2022. This is revealed by the latest indicators of foreign trade from the Foreign Exchange Office.

In detail, this increase is attributable to the increase in exports of natural and chemical fertilizers (+23.49 billion DH) due to the price effect which more than doubled (8.793 DH/T at the end of August 2022 against 4.162 DH/ T at the end of August 2021), explains the Office, noting that the quantities exported have, on the other hand, fallen by -15.5%.

With regard to sales in the automotive sector, they amounted to 66.7 billion dirhams, posting an increase of 29.3% for the first eight months of 2022. These exports reached their highest level during the same period over the past five years.

This increase concerned sales in the construction segment (+47.3%) and those in the wiring segment (+16.7%). On the other hand, exports of the vehicle and seat interior segment fell by 2.5%.

At the same time, exports of the agriculture and agri-food sector stood at 55.83 billion dirhams at the end of August 2022, up 24.1% compared to the same period of 2021. This development is explained by the simultaneous increase in sales food industry (+27.7%) and agriculture, forestry and hunting (+19.8%).

For their part, textile and leather exports increased by 28.8%. This development is attributable, mainly, to the increase in sales of ready-made clothing (+31.2%), knitwear (+22.8%) and footwear (+30.3%).
