“Moroccan exports increased by 24% for the year 2021”

Fettah, who presented a presentation on the “export situation” to the Council of Government, reported an improvement in the coverage rate, from 56.8% in 2017 to 62% in 2021, underlined the Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament, government spokesman, Mustapha Baitas, during a press briefing.

In addition to the general presentation presented by Fettah, the work of the Council was marked by sectoral presentations on export statistics in 2021 and at the end of February 2022, as well as on the related outlook until the end of the year in course, Baitas said.

And to continue that these sectoral presentations were made by the Ministers of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Waters and Forests, Mohamed Sadiki, Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, Tourism, Handicrafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatim-Zahra Ammor, and the Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, Ghita Mezzour.

The Minister noted that the presentations showed a significant improvement in Moroccan exports, reflecting the significant economic dynamics, specifying, in this sense, that the volume of exports increased by 24.3% to 326 billion dirhams ( MMDH) in 2021. Compared to 2019 (pre-Covid period), these exports increased by 14.9%.

They continued the same dynamic during the first month of 2022, with growth of 23% compared to January 2021, supported by the “Made in Morocco” label. Also, the indicators show a post-Covid recovery faster than expected thanks, in particular, to the performance of the main exporting sectors of the Kingdom.

In detail, the automobile industry improved its exports by 15% to 83.3 billion dirhams, while phosphate and derivatives saw its exports increase by 57% to 79.9 billion dirhams, following the rise in prices on the international market. .

In addition, agri-food exports increased by 9% to 68.4 billion dirhams, due to the increase in demand. As for textiles and leather, their sales reached 36.3 billion dirhams, up 21% compared to 2020. This sector has demonstrated its competitiveness during the period of health crisis.

At the same time, aeronautics improved its exports by 12% to 15.4 billion dirhams, thus demonstrating its ability to adapt in a global context impacted by the cessation of air transport.

Regarding exports of electrical and electronic products, they totaled 13.3 billion dirhams, up 10% compared to 2020.

As for the handicraft sector, its exports increased by 31% during the period from January to February 2022. And to reach the true potential of the national offer, the government has put in place a strategy aimed at supporting the actors of the sector to achieve a turnover (CA) of 5 billion dirhams by 2030.

The Minister also underlined that the handling and subcontracting sector has also stood out for its resilience in the face of the health crisis, its annual growth rate not having been significantly impacted. .
