The Moroccan engineers decided to return to their escalatory measures once morest the government, due to what they described as the latter’s “procrastination” in opening an official dialogue with the Union of Moroccan Engineers regarding the demands of this group, most notably the adoption of a new statute for the inter-ministerial body of engineers.
In this context, the National Union of Moroccan Engineers announced a general national strike on Thursday, May 9 and 21, 2024, with two protests in front of the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform and in front of Parliament.
In a statement, the Union of Moroccan Engineers blamed “the government for the consequences of procrastination in not responding to the engineering files presented, and the resulting unprecedented setback for national engineering.”
In a related context, the Union warned of what it called “the slippages that might occur due to the long wait, the blockage of the horizon, and the tension caused by the delay in processing the files at hand.”
On the other hand, Moroccan engineers expressed their rejection of “all reform measures for pension systems that roll back gains and attempt to solve the crisis of the systems at the expense of employees.”
They also renewed their rejection of “any draft law restricting strikes that aims to perpetuate repression and restrict the right to strike.”
In return, the engineers called for “approving real, comprehensive reforms with a participatory approach that begins with the state paying what remains in its debt to the public treasury, improving the returns on civil pension system entitlements, and bearing part of the financial deficit of this system by the Finance Department for deposits, similar to the collective system for granting retirement salaries, and respecting the principle The employee bears one-third of the contributions and the employer bears two-thirds for the civil pension system, just like other systems.
It should be noted that the engineers had previously staged a protest on April 25, 2024, in front of Parliament due to “procrastination” in interacting with the demand file that was submitted in 2022 to the Prime Minister regarding the necessity of approving a new basic system, which includes reviewing the 2011 decree, introducing amendments to it, and raising wages. Regulating the practice of the engineering profession.
