The Orlando Magic continue to rely on their forward/center Moritz “Mo” Wagner. As ESPN reported on Saturday evening, citing Wagner’s advisor Jason Glushon, the 26-year-old German national player will receive a new contract with the team he has been playing for for two years and for which his brother Franz, who is five years younger, is also active.

The new contract is said to be worth $16 million over two years, which would be significantly better than Wagner’s previous working paper in Orlando, which brought in $3.6 million for two years. “I love this team, I love these guys,” Wagner said in May, so his future was open.

Last NBA season, Orlando made the playoffs as Table-13. clearly missed the Eastern Conference, Wagner averaged 10.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and an average of almost 20 minutes of playing time – a career best.

“He’s a super smart player”

“He brings a little bit of everything,” said teammate and Rookie of the Year Paolo Banchero recently regarding Wagner. “He’s a lot more capable than people think. He’s a super smart player. He and his brother are very smart and intelligent. They have a very good sense of what’s going on in the game. Not just what they’re doing, but also what their team-mates are doing. They’re just very observant.”

In 2018, the Los Angeles Lakers drafted Wagner in the first round. After that, the Berlin native played for the Washington Wizards and the Boston Celtics before joining the Magic during the 2020/21 season.

Wagner is also in the provisional squad for the German national team for the World Cup in Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines (25 August to 10 September). The EM 2022, which Germany finished in third place, missed Wagner due to an injury.
