NHL professional Moritz Seider is missing from the German ice hockey selection at the World Cup. The defender justifies his rejection not only with minor injuries.

National ice hockey player Moritz Seider justified his cancellation of the upcoming World Cup with a very important summer for him.

The Detroit Red Wings defender from the North American professional league NHL explained this in an interview with “Mannheimer Morgen”. The 22-year-old is one of several players who will not be available to the new national coach Harold Kreis for the World Cup in Finland and Latvia from May 12th to 28th.

“There are one or two minor injuries that I have to heal. I’ve played a lot of ice hockey in recent years, and I have a very important summer ahead of me, which I want to tackle with all my might,” said Seider. “I want to have the best possible chance to get off to a good start in my first contract negotiations with Detroit. They make up the big picture for my career.” He had missed the current NHL playoffs with the Red Wings.

For the German selection, the quarter-finals must always be the goal, stressed Seider and hopes that the players from champion EHC Red Bull Munich, who are now joining the World Cup team, will provide a boost. A possible participation in the 2026 Winter Olympics would be a dream for him. “Absolutely. As of now, we NHL players would be there. The guys I’m in contact with are really looking forward to Milan and Cortina,” said Seider.
