Morena candidate, husband of the kidnapped mayor in Oaxaca, is found dead

This Friday afternoon the discovery of the body of Alberto Antonio García, Morena candidate to succeed his wife Cancino Gómez Agar in the municipal presidency of San José Independencia, Oaxaca.

According to the Oaxaca Attorney General’s OfficeMayor Agar Cancino Gómez was found alive after being deprived of her freedom last Wednesday, April 17, although she showed apparent signs of torture.

Prior to the kidnapping, it is known that the Morenoist mayor had held a meeting with Karina Barón, head of the Executive Secretariat of the State Security Systemwith the purpose of coordinating efforts to preserve peace and security in the town.

As reported in local media, Cancino had declared days ago that the municipality was experiencing low levels of insecurity: “San José Independencia is a very noble town, here we can say that crime is very low”.

The alleged murder of Alberto Antonio García adds to the wave of violence against candidates for public office, especially those competing for local office.

Since the electoral process began, at least 25 murders of candidates for public officemembers of different political parties.
