Surprisingly, the Xbox Series for the first time outsold the PS5 in Europe.

The data of latest barometer from the GSD institute have indeed come to show that these two geographical areas have seen Xbox Series sales passed above PS5 sales in February 2022. This phenomenon is a first on the European market and has been a trend for several months on the American market.
Microsoft overtakes Sony in Europe
Since the launch of the Xbox Series X/S as well as the PS5, Microsoft and Sony are struggling to keep up with demand. This situation is notably due to the global shortage of semiconductors. Because of this, it is still very difficult to buy an Xbox Series X or a PS5 in the world.
In its new barometer from the GSD institute concerning commercial trends in the video game market in Europe, we have just learned that sales of Xbox Series X / S had passed that of the PS5 in February 2022. This performance should be noted in marble given that it’s a first since the launch of next-gen consoles in November 2020.
That is in particular due to the Xbox Series S, a less powerful version without a Blu-ray drive compared to the Xbox Series X. This 100% digital version also had a major advantage, its price of 300 €. In particular, it allows you to take advantage of video games in 1440p quality at 60 FPS as well as reduced loading times thanks to the SSD.
The GSD institute then came to point out that the Switch remained number one in console sales in February 2022 on the European market. In terms of video game sales, Elden Ring came out on top and accounted for 44% of PC sales, 27% on PS5, 16% on Xbox and 13% on PS4 last month.
