More than one in 3 French people want to do more sport in 2023

The new year is an opportunity for everyone to determine good resolutions. Generally linked to overall well-being or personal goals, they can affect all areas: creative hobbies, relaxation, family… But each year, a key objective comes up: getting into sport.

This beginning of the year 2023 is no exception to the rule and an Ipsos survey requested by the French Federation of Physical Education & Voluntary Gymnastics highlights it. The latter is regarding good resolutions the most popular with the French.

And for 32% of them, doing more sport is their main objective this year. However, this good resolution is hampered by various factors.

A resolution impacted by inflation?

If it remains very popular, this resolution can however be impacted by the lack of time but especially by inflation. In effect, 34% of respondents have stopped their subscription to a gym or an association for economic reasons. The number is even higher among parents. For 42% of them, financial reasons forced them not to register their children for sporting events.

Nevertheless, Exercising is essential for our health.. Among other things, it allows you to develop certain points such as flexibility, team spirit or endurance. But physical practice is above all rich in both physical and mental benefits. On a physical level, sport helps to limit the development of certain pathologies. It also helps to reduce obesity and sedentary lifestyle.

On a mental level, sport is excellent for reducing stress. The hormones released during the sessions also have an effect on the quality of sleep. In some cases, they can even alleviate some physical pain.

Sport, family and time for yourself: the 3 major resolutions of this year

While sport is the No. 1 good resolution for 32% of respondents, the other popular resolutions are very focused on loved ones. In effect, 25% of respondents said they wanted to spend more time with their families. As for the 3rd most popular resolution, it concerns moments for oneself.

Even if they remain distant from the world of sport, these resolutions have an equally important impact on the mind. Relaxation and sharing allow relieve stress, relax the mind and thus to be better prepared to face the challenges of the year!
