According to a survey, more than half of the people oppose the special military service of the idol group ‘BTS’.

These are the results of a survey on BTS military service exceptions announced on the 5th by Cho Won C&I, a public opinion polling company, on the 4th of the 4th, targeting 1001 voters nationwide, at the request of Straight News.

In this survey, 54.1% of the respondents answered that they should fulfill their military service obligations, and 40.1% said that they should be given special benefits. Opposition to special military service was 14 percentage points higher than in favor.

In particular, the response rate of ‘we must fulfill our duty’ was higher than the response rate in favor of special cases in all regions. In Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do and in Gangwon-do and Jeju, 69.3% and 69.6% of the opinions once morest the special treatment accounted for a high proportion, respectively.

By age, those in their 20s answered that they must fulfill their duties the most with 73.2%. Those in their 30s (60.4%), those in their 40s (49.4%), those in their 50s (48.3%), and those in their 60s (47.5%) had the most dissenting opinions.

The response rate of ‘I must fulfill my duty’ was more than half of both men (58.1%) and women (50.3%).

The results of this investigation are expected to have an impact on the military authorities who are struggling with BTS military service exceptions. Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-seop said at a general meeting of the National Assembly’s National Defense Committee on the 31st of last month that he would “reorganize the position of the military following collecting public opinion” regarding the controversy over BTS’ special military service.

At the time, Minister Lee said, “I have instructed my staff to conduct an opinion poll as soon as possible.”
