More than half of Moroccans say they practice sport regularly, according to the results of a questionnaire launched by the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE) as part of the development of its opinion on the economy of sport.
“Compared to Moroccans’ relationship to sport, the results of the questionnaire show that more than half of the respondents practice it regularly, and around 12% even testify to participating in sports competitions”, indicates the ESEC.
On the other hand, 30% of the total respondents say they rarely practice sport, according to the results of this questionnaire launched by the ESEC, from March 4 to 27, 2022, through its citizen participation platform Ouchariko.
At the same time, athletics stands out at 64% as one of the sports that public policies should target, according to the respondents to the questionnaire, followed by football at 60% and basketball at 43%. On the other hand, only 21% and 8% of respondents consider that equestrian sports and golf respectively are sports to be targeted by policies.
As for the reasons which prevent Moroccans from attending more sporting events, the participants in the questionnaire opted 65.5% for security problems in the stadiums, indicates the ESEC.
Also, more than half of the respondents estimated that the level of sports in Morocco is among the reasons that would prevent Moroccans from attending sports shows. The Council notes that 31% of all respondents also believe that lack of interest in sport is one of the reasons that would prevent Moroccans from attending sport.
With regard to local sites, half of the respondents say they are not at all satisfied with access to these sites, while only 9% say they are satisfied.
The number of people who interacted with the subject is 69,397, including 887 participants in the questionnaire, said the ESEC, adding that the results of this consultation will be taken into account in the opinion “for a sports economy in Morocco » in the process of being adopted by the ESEC.
