more than flexibility, a cultural change

If there is one thing that has become clear following two years of the pandemic, it is that the people who inevitably experienced 100% remote work during 2020 are no longer the same as before. The past few years have left a lasting mark, redefining the way people think regarding the way they work and the role that work plays in their daily lives. Thus, a question regarding meaning appears: why go to the office? Why do I work? What is the purpose of what I am doing?

Hybrid work is presented as a possible answer, almost inevitable, to all these questions. For example, the Microsoft study together with the UdeSA “The future of work (hybrid): a model that is consolidated in Argentine companies”, 77% of Argentines prefer to work in a hybrid way due to the greater productivity of the teams and the increase of well-being and personal balance. This number accounts for a cultural change that implies, in the first instance, retracing old structures.

It is necessary to clarify that, when we talk regarding hybrid work, we are not only referring to the modality that allows combining face-to-face and remote work, but also a deeper change, which rethinks the very concept of work. The latter becomes, in addition to an exchange, an experience that involves both the employees and the organizations and tries to reconcile, in the best possible way, both expectations for joint growth.

So, the question arises once more, how to make hybrid work work? There is no single answer to this question, a unique and effective formula. On the contrary, the question regarding hybrid work requires organizations to formulate a deeper question, linked to the purpose. For example, what is the contribution of the company to the people who work in it? why would they choose to work in the organization?

You need to understand that hybrid work is not just flexibility, it’s a culture, a common purpose in the workplace. This is the first step. From there, each organization will be able to find the best way to implement it by listening, fundamentally, to people.
