More than 88 thousand Venezuelans have crossed the Darien this year

This Thursday, the Ministry of Public Security of Panama He indicated that, from January to April of this year, more than 88 thousand Venezuelan migrants have crossed the dangerous Darien jungle.

Specifically, the Panamanian government agency He maintained that 88,660 Venezuelans have passed through the areawhich in recent years has become one of the largest migratory corridors in the region.

This figure represents more than half of the 139,267 migrants counted in the Darien jungle during 2024.

According to the Panamanian Public Security portfolio, 20% of the migrants who have passed through the area are minors.

April was a month with a lower than average flow, with 29,259 people crossing the area, the ministry added.

The period of the year with the highest traffic was Februarywith a record of 37,166 migrants passing through.
