Authorities in Hialeah, Florida, estimate that during the most recent two years 80,000 Cubans have arrived in the city. In fact, this massive arrival of migrants from the Island is a cause for concern among the current administration of the aforementioned city.
A forum recently held in Hialeah addressed the topic in question. Local authorities evaluated the impact that this massive arrival of Cubans to the city has had.
Likewise, they outlined strategies related to the resources available to face this wave of migration.
The mayor of Hialeah, Esteban Bovo, commented to America Tevé regarding the delicate situation. “We can not only help these people adapt but also communicate to the federal government the help that is needed for a city like ours. It’s regarding seeing how we as a city can adapt and provide better services.”
Of the 420,000 migrants who arrived in the United States from Cuba in the last two years, 75% ended up in South Florida. The majority settled, precisely, in Hialeah.
The city’s police chief, George Fuente, admitted the increase in traffic accidents in the last two years. Also, the numbers of arrests and crime in general have increased.
Impact of mass migration
Bovo and the rest of its executives explained in the aforementioned forum that mass immigration has not only generated a real estate crisis in Hialeah. It has also impacted the educational system due to the arrival of school-age children.
The mayor said that “there has been a growth in alternative housing that cannot be accepted in the city, I am obviously referring to mobile homes.”
By the way, in recent months Bovo has taken measures to stop the wave of illegal mobile homes. Meanwhile, the daily tasks of public officials in relation to the immigration issue have increased.
