More than 78,000 jobs and 7,700 new companies, advances in job creation in Paraguay

Asuncion, IP Agency.- President Santiago Peña reported that more than 78,000 jobs have been created and more than 30,000 people have been formalized in social security during the first quarter of this year. In this regard, he stated that the Government is on the right path to fulfill its promise of creating 500,000 new jobs in his five years of management.

In his report to Congress and the nation on Monday, President Peña Nieto stressed that promoting investments to create more jobs is in line with his government’s vision that the most effective social policy is economic prosperity.

In this regard, he referred to the Government’s commitment to economic stability policies that attract investments and highlighted that these efforts have been recognized with an improvement in Paraguay’s credit rating by Standard & Poor’s, placing the country one step away from investment grade.

He also mentioned the strong promotion of public works, understanding that these, in addition to being a fundamental engine for growth and job creation, promote social inclusion and improve the quality of life of all Paraguayans.

“That is why we have streamlined the execution of current contracts worth more than US$ 1 billion, and to date we have put out to tender works for an additional US$ 840 million,” he said.

He also referred to measures to ensure that the income generated by workers for their families goes further.

In this regard, he noted that inflation has shown a downward trend, falling from 8.1% in 2022 to 3.7% in 2023 and remaining stable near the 4.0% target in the first months of 2024.

“To date, Paraguayan workers have seen an 11% increase in their household income compared to the previous period. “This means more money in their pockets,” said Peña.

However, he acknowledged that the prices of the food basket have not yet been reflected in these figures, and therefore, “we will continue making efforts to reach this goal,” he said.
