A first series of projects had already been carried out at the beginning of the year in so-called closed environments, such as the KBC bank headquarters in Leuven. But, this time, the home scanner intended for people without a smartphone or without internet access has also been tested.
“At the pilot project level, the digital system demonstrated its operational robustness. The digital platform was available to users 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and virtually no errors were observed,” we can read in the press release. “More than 99% of codes were scanned without problem at consumer level.” The observation is identical for the system relating to home scanners, tested in the holiday center.
Although further analysis of the available data is underway, researchers say the scheme has had an effect on quantities of litter. “Respect for the privacy of users has also been ensured. No complaints have been recorded,” it is also specified.
Preliminary results from this second round of pilot projects will be analyzed by an advisory group. The steering group, chaired by Ovam, will take into account its contributions and will submit its conclusions and recommendations to the Flemish government.
