Cas a prelude to the celebration of the Olympic Games which will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024, and ahead of the Paralympic Games which will follow a few weeks (August 28 to September 8), the arrival of the Paris 2024 flame on the French soil gave rise to a historic day in the Phocaean City.

The second city in France indeed welcomed with great fanfare the White on board which the lantern containing the sacred fire of Olympia (Greece) had been placed since its departure from Athens at the end of April.

For the occasion, various festivities had been set up on the coast – with an impressive maritime parade – and on the ” Old Port “ where nearly 200,000 people flocked to the quays to be in the front row.

If on the ground the activities and the public were there, the television channels also largely devoted their respective antennas to the coverage of this unique event, France welcoming for the first time in its history the Olympic flame of Summer games orchestrated on its territory.

In fact, TF1 and France 2 went on air from the start of the morning through special programs live from Marseille with, for each of the two channels, guests throughout the day. The 24-hour news channels were also on deck to cover the arrival of the flame.

In terms of audiences, interest was marked according to the figures published today by Médiamétrie.

Thus, taking into account only the audiences of the first two channels, the relocation of the morning show “Telematin” from France 2 captured the attention of 791,000 viewers, or 25.6% of the public. Faced with the meeting of its competitor, the show « Bonjour » by TF1 attracted the interest of 310,000 viewers (9.2% of the public). Subsequently, the end of the morning was more followed on the front page than the second channel, with respectively 2.33 million viewers on TF1 until 1:00 p.m. (24.5%) and 1.83 million on France 2 until on the midday news program (20.6%).

In the followingnoon, the special edition of France 2 allowed the public channel to regain the advantage over its rival, recording 1.38 million viewers from 3:45 p.m. to 6:25 p.m., or 17.1% of the public, while that TF1 continued to attract 746,000 viewers until 7:00 p.m. (8.5%).

From 6:25 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., France attracted no less than 3.34 million viewers, or 23.3% of the public then present in front of their television set. TF1, for its part, convinced 2.59 million people from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (16.5%).

Finally, in the evening, only France 2 continued to celebrate the arrival of the Olympic flame, with a special evening around the concert of rappers Alonzo and Soprano in front of the floating athletics track arranged for the docking of the White.

Also, the second channel rose to second position in the evening’s audiences, behind France 3, with an audience of 1.85 million viewers (10.8%).
