Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch said on Monday, July 15, 2024, that more than 56,000 families from the areas affected by the Al Hoceima earthquake have benefited from support allocated to rebuild and rehabilitate their damaged homes, with a completion rate of 95 percent, and a total envelope of nearly 1.4 billion dirhams.
Akhannouch explained in a presentation he gave during the monthly questioning session at the House of Representatives on the subject of “urban and housing policy and its impact on economic dynamism and social and spatial development,” that the number of building permits granted to targeted families amounted to more than 53 thousand permits, representing 90 percent of the population that was counted, in the provinces of Al Haouz, Chichaoua, Marrakech, Taroudant, Azilal and Ouarzazate.
He pointed out that the measures taken to rebuild the areas affected by the Al Hoceima earthquake, as an exceptional event witnessed by the Kingdom, required exceptional mobilization of all the sectors concerned behind His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in order to overcome the consequences of this natural disaster and contribute to restoring the conditions for economic, social and cultural development for the benefit of families in the affected areas.
On the other hand, Akhannouch stressed that the national land preparation sector is witnessing a qualitative transformation, through the activation of strategic land planning, which mainly included providing technical and financial support to complete 12 regional land preparation designs, noting that 6 regional designs were completed before June 2021 and 5 other regional designs in the last two and a half years.
In the urban planning axis, the Prime Minister noted what has been achieved in this field, highlighting that a new generation of urban planning documents has been established, through the approval of a group of urban planning documents, including development designs, rural cluster growth designs, urban planning guidance plan, and programming of strategic areas.
He added that this will contribute to rationalizing urban planning within major cities and alleviating pressure on them, and enabling rural areas to have promising opportunities to strengthen their competitiveness and socio-economic integration. It will also give the national and regional business climate a strong boost in terms of attracting major investments and facilitating their localization processes.
