Asunción, IP Agency.- Paraguay expects to attract more than 50,000 foreigners in the coming months, according to the Meetings Tourism Plan managed by the National Tourism Secretariat (Senatur). This was reported by the minister of the portfolio, Angie Duarte, on Tribuna, a program broadcast by Paraguay TV. She estimates that the initiative, which is a key part of the country’s Tourism Master Plan, will help boost the economy and create new jobs.
He explained that meeting tourism is a high-value segment of the tourism industry that can generate significant economic benefits for the country. “This initiative will help us position Paraguay as a leading destination for conferences, conventions and other international events,” she added.
The initiative includes a series of key components, such as the coordinated work of Senatur with the Paraguay Convention Bureau and the National University to conduct national surveys for the Economic Observatory of Meetings Tourism. Likewise, technical assistance to entities interested in applying for events to attract them to Paraguay.
Duarte indicated that he is also focusing his management on a public-private alliance for the international promotion of Paraguay as a destination. In addition to these measures, Senatur plans to organize a series of events in the coming months to promote meeting tourism among potential visitors.
These events include a seminar on meeting tourism for convention bureaus, professional associations and public entities that are potential candidates to host events in Paraguay. In addition, continuous technical assistance to national organizations that apply for Paraguay to host international events.
A total of 106,246 people are expected to participate in the various events that will be held in Paraguay this year. Of which 50,000 will be foreigners who will arrive in the country.
Upcoming relevant events
Some of the most important upcoming events are the Assembly of Jehovah’s Witnesses, where 18,000 people are expected to receive; meeting of the Latin American Federation of Banks (Felaban), with 2,000 guests; meeting of the Paraguayan Chamber of Millers (Capamol), which plans to bring together 600 people.
Likewise, the Transparency Forum, organized by Tax Revenue with 140 countries represented and 600 participants; meeting of the Latin American Financial Action Group (GAFILAT), which will be a forum organized by the Secretariat for the Prevention of Money or Assets Laundering with 50 participants at the level of ministers from each invited country.
This year’s Special Olympics will bring together 1,500 athletes, with 1,500 foreign companions, plus 800 national athletes; while the Premier Padel Asunción expects to receive more than 100 international visitors, and a movement of 5,000 people throughout the week of the event, which consists of a tournament broadcast worldwide.
