More than 40 Vente Venezuela militants have been arrested after the post-election protests

Since the beginning of the post-election protests, security forces have detained several opposition political leaders. On Friday, October 4, the Con Venezuela Command reported the arrest of Renny Rodríguez, Vente Venezuela Training Coordinator in Anzoátegui.

“Repressive forces of the regime kidnapped Renny Rodriguez, Vente Venezuela Training Coordinator in Anzoátegui and director of the Con Vzla Command in El Tigre. We demand the cessation of the persecution and his immediate release,” he reported on his X account (formerly Twitter.)

As of Wednesday, October 2, the party founded by opposition leader María Corina Machado detailed that 41 of its members are detained.

Among those detained in Vente Venezuela are: Julio Itriago, María Oropeza, Dignora Hernández, Ricardo Estévez, among others.

Who are the Vente Venezuela detainees?

The arrest of several of its members in different states of the country has been reported from the political organization founded by Machado.

In addition to Renny Rodríguez, this same week they also arrested in Anzoátegui Julio Itriagocoordinator of this party in the Anaco municipality.

The action occurs just a few days after security forces arrested in Caracas to Milciades Avila and Edwin Moyamembers of the protection team of opposition leader María Corina Machado.

On August 7, state security officials entered the home of Maria Oropeza, head of the Command with Venezuela in the Portuguesa state. The political leader was charged on August 16 with the crimes of “terrorism and incitement to hatred.”

On July 30, two days after the presidential election, security officials detained Ricardo Estévez, a member of Vente Venezuela’s electoral team. Five days after his arrest, it was confirmed that he was being held in El Helicoide, according to Amnesty International.

In March 2024, Un mundo Sin Mordaza denounced the arrest of Henry Alviarez, national coordinator of the Vente Venezuela political party, and Dignora Hernández, national secretary of the same party.

Hernández’s niece, María Laura Márquez, alerted on Friday, October 4, about a severe allergy episode.

“If not treated correctly, it can end in an episode of suffocation. As family members, we demand from all non-governmental entities and organizations that Dinora needs to receive quality medical care,” he stated in a video shared by María Corina Machado.

The arrests of opponents during the post-election protests in Venezuela

In addition to the 41 detainees from Vente Venezuela, the head of Machado’s political team, Magalli Meda, said that until October 2, a total of 154 political leaders were arrested.

According to Meda, there have been more than 1,713 detainees, including citizens and political leaders, since the beginning of the post-election protests that began on July 29.
