The storm that has affected five regions of the neighboring country since last Wednesday, such as Biobío, Maule, Metropolitana, Ñuble and O’Higginsy, It caused flooding, cut off routes, highways, power and drinking water, as well as destroyed bridges.

Due to this situation, the local authorities began the evacuation of people in the most affected areas, including routes 5 and 68.

It was also requested the preventive eviction of areas close to the rivers “due to the threat of overflow”, as reported by the newspaper ‘La Tercera’.

About, the president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, gathered his cabinet to “monitor the emergency caused by the rains” and asked his team to “deploy throughout the territory and make all possible efforts to help the affected families”, as he himself indicated on his Twitter profile.

For his part, the Undersecretary of the Interior of the Chilean Government, Manuel Monsalve, warned that the storm is likely to end up depleting the drinking water reserve ponds in some regions and shared with them a list of tips to deal with potential water outages.

In this sense, the undersecretary called for the responsibility of the residents of the affected areas and highlighted the usefulness of “gathering water in clean and covered containers”, but without going so far as to “store more than what might actually be needed.”

For now, the company Aguas Andinas -dedicated to the supply of drinking water and sewerage- temporarily suspended the supply in 34 communes of the Metropolitan Region of Santiago de Chile.
